Managing Nigerian Employees

Nigerian employees are the most difficult to manage, you won’t understand this until you experience it. The reason some of us behave well abroad is that we know emotions don’t count there. If you commit even the smallest crime, you’re going to jail.

When you employ a Nigerian in your company or business, they come for two things, and becoming wealthy with your money is one of them. I have done it myself, which I shared years ago, so you cannot say I am exaggerating or making this up.

I was sent to Lagos to serve (do nwa boi). I got there and started stealing and saving my master's money from the very first week. Foolish me, little did I know that he sees and knows everything. A man who has been in business for years has seen it all, so my so called smartness was nothing but stupidity.

One day, he called me and showed me everything I had done. He said something that changed my life forever, and I will never forget it.

He said, "Ordinarily, when any of my boys steal my money, I mark them with a razor blade before sending them home to their parents, but there is something special about you, so I won't do it. Know this, however: there is no shortcut in life."

That statement has never left me since 2010. That is why I work myself to the bone every day and night to earn a living legitimately, no matter how small, while believing in better days.

Now I run a tech and finance company. There is nothing an employee can do that I won’t know, unless I choose to ignore it. “Before Abraham was, I am.”

We need to do better in this country. Even Aliko Dangote, the richest Black man in the world, recently cried out about employees eating his sugarcane at his factory. If those employees were 100, I can bet that 98 of them are Nigerians.

Life is hard for everyone, including that employer of yours who you think has it all. If he shared his struggles with you, you might end up sharing your salary with him, it is that tough.

When you close and go to sleep, he does not. He stays up thinking and calculating. And then you feel you can steal my money? I will dim your light. Don't play with my money.☹️

A very important prayer point for Business owner and Entrepreneurs

Lord please send to me partners, who will work diligently, creatively, honestly & profitably with me,the way I worked 4 others.

This week alone we've uncover more than 3 staff theft in our Logistic business running into millions of naira. ⁣

See eh .. these people are ready to eat the business till it packs up.⁣

Na you no go gree oooo.⁣

Especially if your system is weak. ⁣

If you like pay one billion as salary, pay commission, pay kidney replacement money...⁣

Nigerians are not smiling. They'll keep coming up with creative ways to steal from your business and wreck it to the ground. ⁣

Don't ever run your business on trust. Build systems as though you're working with thieves. Because indeed you'll be working with many thieves..

I’ve come to a conclusion:
No matter how much you try, Training people does not make up for Laziness, lack of willingness to grow and mediocrity.
Wrong People may change over time, but the cost is on you.
