Here are things most doctors wish every patient knew

🌿 Please tell your doctor EVERYTHING you take — including herbs, supplements, teas, powders, and vitamins.

Sometimes “natural” products can still affect the body strongly.

For example:
➡️ Some herbs and supplements can affect liver tests
➡️ Some protein powders or workout supplements can affect kidney blood tests

📱 Google can help… but it can also scare people unnecessarily 😅
A headache does not always mean a brain tumor. A cough does not always mean something terrible. Use the internet carefully and let your doctor help sort through the information.

💧 Please drink water before routine blood work unless you were told to fast differently.
Being dehydrated can sometimes affect labs and make blood draws harder.

👩🏾‍⚕️ Doctors are human too.
We worry about patients. We carry difficult conversations home sometimes. We get tired. We try very hard not to make mistakes.

And yes… sometimes we remember patients years later ❤️

🙏🏾 Most doctors truly want to help.
Medicine is a partnership. The best results usually happen when doctors and patients work together with honesty, patience and trust

📅 Preventive care matters.
Many serious illnesses are easier to treat when found early. Checkups, vaccines, mammograms, colon cancer screening, Pap smears, prostate discussions, blood pressure checks — these things save lives.

🧂 “Natural” does not always mean safe.
Herbs, detox teas, supplements, and “immune boosters” can still affect the liver, kidneys, heart, blood pressure, or other medicines.

🚭 If you smoke, vape, drink heavily, or use substances, please tell us honestly.
We are not there to shame you. We ask because it changes medical decisions and can affect your health and medications.

😔 Please do not feel embarrassed about mental health.
Stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, and grief affect MANY people. Your doctor would usually rather know than have you suffer silently.

🏃🏾‍♀️ Small healthy habits matter more than “perfect” habits.
Walking more, sleeping better, reducing sugary drinks, taking medicines regularly — these small things add up over time.

🤍 Doctors actually WANT you to ask questions.
Good doctors do not expect patients to know everything. If you are confused, nervous, or unsure, please ask.

⏰ Please be patient with your doctor’s office.
Most doctors truly try very hard to stay on time. But sometimes the patient ahead of you may have received unexpected news, had an emergency, or needed extra care.

And when it’s YOUR turn, we want to give you that same attention and care too ❤️

📞 If something discussed during your appointment is not happening, please call the office.
Do not assume the plan suddenly changed after you left. Sometimes referrals, prescriptions, or paperwork simply need follow-up.

📋 Also keep a small “to-do” list after your visit:
✔️ Schedule that scan
✔️ Pick up the medicine
✔️ Book the follow-up
✔️ Start the exercise plan
Little reminders help a lot!

📝 Bring your questions to your appointment.
Writing them down helps make sure you don’t forget anything once you get into the room. (It happens to all of us 😂)

💊 Please keep a list of your medications and know why you take each one.
It also helps to know which medicines are VERY important not to miss.

For example:
➡️ A person with Type 1 diabetes should never run out of insulin because it can become life-threatening very quickly.
➡️ Missing Vitamin D for a day or two is usually much less urgent.

🩺 If something is bothering you, please tell us.
It truly does not matter which part of the body it is. To medical people, checking a rash on your arm and checking a problem “down there” are both just part of caring for you 😊 We want to help, not judge.
