THE RISK OF RECOMMENDING PEOPLE

When someone recommends you for an opportunity,
it is not a small thing.

They are not just mentioning your name.

They are putting their reputation on the line.

What it really means to do a recommendation!
A recommendation says:

“I trust this person.”
“I believe they can deliver.”
“I am willing to be associated with their performance.”

In many cases, it goes even deeper.

They are risking: Their credibility
Their professional image
Their relationship with the person or organisation

It has become scary and risky recommending people.

Not because opportunities are scarce…
but because reliability is scarce.

People: Show up unprepared
Underperform
Disappear when it matters most
Or fail to take responsibility

And when that happens, It doesn’t only affect them.

It damages the person who recommended them.

The hard truth is that some people want opportunities…

But they are not ready for responsibility.

They want access
but not accountability.

They want the platform
but not the pressure that comes with it.

You must understand that when someone puts your name forward:

You are no longer representing just yourself.

You are representing them, too.

Your performance becomes their reputation.

The standard you must hold is that if you are given an opportunity through someone:

Show up prepared
Deliver beyond expectation
Communicate clearly
Take responsibility

Because excellence is not optional in that moment

It is required.

Finally, know that opportunities can open doors.

But performance keeps them open.

So if someone ever risks their name for you…

Don’t take it lightly.

Deliver.
