My Father died as an Army personnel but I was Peanut as Gratuity

I lost my dad at the age of 2 in the year 2000.
‎He was an army personnel (private) who died due to an illness.
‎So fast forward to 2020/2021 the division where he served sent a message to us the family to come forward and process his death gratuity.
‎Atanda after my fathers demise I was told his family tried processing the death gratuity but they were rejected saying until I his Son was of age before his gratuity can be facilitated.

‎Atanda after all the whole travelling to and fro in trying to process the payment, the only money i received in my account was 99,000 naira which they said was his Gratuity after 20yrs of his death.

‎Atanda my name was even enlisted twice for death insurance scheme and i was called upon from headquarters to come and receive the cheque but each time i went there they refused giving me the cheque saying i wasn't qualified for the payment because when my father was in active service death insurance scheme was not in existence. Atanda I'm not even angry that they refused giving me the death insurance scheme. what is pissing me off was the 99,000 i received as his gratuity. Atanda we spent over 100,000 for transportation alone while travelling up and down to get all necessary documents to facilitate the gratuity payment. But at the end it seemed to be a fruitless adventure.

‎All this happened in 2020 or 2021. But recently I'm beginning to feel i wasn't properly settled. why would i spend over a 100,000 naira for a 99,000 gratuity payment.

‎Please Atanda is there anyway i can go about this? my dad served 7yrs before his demise in the year 2000.

‎I actually went back to army pension board to lay my complaint but i was told by one personnel that the rate at which they were paying gratuity when my father was in service was what i was paid now.

In the year 2000, military pensions and gratuities were governed by the Armed Forces Pensions Act (Cap A23 LFN 2004 / Pensions Act of 1979) under a Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
Gratuity for a Private soldier with 7 years of service in the late 1990s/2000 was calculated based on his last basic salary at the time of death, not current economic rates or inflation in 2026.

Under the old rules, military personnel typically needed a minimum of 5 years of service to qualify for a gratuity, but 10 to 15 years to qualify for a monthly pension. Since your father served 7 years, his next-of-kin was entitled to a one-off Death Gratuity, but not a monthly pension.

So that 99k in the year 2000 is like 300 to 400k now ooooo.
Those days ehn, You can feed a whole community with that 99k

Shey you know wetin you go use 99k do for year 2000 🤣🤣

Chai

Its unfortunate the value will not increase as the year count and it's fortunate the military kept such record until you're of age

I commend them for that

You need to move on with life
