HOW TO KNOW IF SOMEBODY IS USING YOUR BVN WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION.

Your BVN is like the key to your money. Once somebody gets it, they can do plenty of things in your name (open accounts, take loans, even use it for fraud)

Today I will show you how to check if anybody is using your BVN behind your back.

FIRST, UNDERSTAND THE DANGER. ⚠️
Some people have your BVN and you do not even know how. Maybe you gave it to a “loan agent.”
Maybe somebody at a small business asked for it for “verification.”
Maybe a worker at a bank or shop saved it down.

If your BVN is in the wrong hands, somebody can open bank accounts in your name to do fraud. Take loans from loan apps and banks using your identity. Tie debts to your name that will follow you for years. You will not even know until your name appears in a credit bureau as somebody who owes money you never collected.

HOW TO CHECK ALL ACCOUNTS LINKED TO YOUR BVN.
There is a free service Nigerian banks provide. Many people do not know about it.

- Step one: Go to nibss website (search on google)
- Step two: Click “BVN linked accounts.”
- Step three: Enter your BVN and follow the steps.
- Step four: They will show you EVERY single account in Nigeria that is linked to your BVN. If you see any account you did not open — that is your evidence somebody is using your name. Walk straight to that bank with your ID and demand they close it.

If you do not want to use this online method, enter your bank branch to do it all.

Or you can use the USSD Option available.

HOW TO CHECK IF SOMEBODY IS TAKING LOANS WITH YOUR BVN.
Visit any of the three credit bureaus in Nigeria (CRC, FirstCentral, or CreditRegistry.).

They are by law allowed to give you ONE free credit report every year.

- Step one: Visit credit report website
- Step two: Sign up with your BVN and details.
- Step three: Request your free annual credit report.
- Step four: Read it carefully.

Every loan in your name will appear. If you see a loan you did not collect, that is fraud. Report immediately.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS. Walk into your bank. File a formal report. Report the credit bureau directly through their dispute process. Write to CBN Consumer Protection with all evidence.

File a police report so you have legal documentation. The earlier you catch it, the easier it is to clean up.

Stop giving your BVN to anybody who asks. Save this content. Share this post. Check your BVN today. Tag a friend who needs to do the same.

Your finance must get better!

🚨 HOW TO KNOW IF SOMEONE IS USING YOUR BVN OR NIN WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE

Imagine waking up one morning and receiving a message:

“Congratulations! Your loan of ₦300,000 has been approved.”

You are confused.

You never applied for any loan.

You ignore the message because you assume it is just another scam.

Then another message comes.

And another.

Before you know it, there is a financial account or loan obligation connected to your identity that you know nothing about.

This is why you should not wait until there is a problem before checking your financial identity.

Your BVN, NIN and banking information are important pieces of information connected to you. If they get into the wrong hands, they can potentially be misused.

So, what can you do?

1️⃣ CHECK YOUR BVN

Use your bank's official channel to check your BVN and confirm that the information attached to it belongs to you.

You may also use the recognised BVN verification/retrieval channel available through your bank.

Don't just assume everything is correct because you have been using your account for years.

2️⃣ CHECK YOUR NIN DETAILS

Use the official NIMC Mobile ID App or another recognised NIMC channel to access and verify your NIN information.

Check that your personal details are accurate.

Be careful about entering your NIN on random websites or giving it to people who have no legitimate reason to request it.

3️⃣ FIND OUT WHAT ACCOUNTS ARE LINKED TO YOUR BVN

This is one check many people don't think about.

If you suspect that your BVN may have been used somewhere without your knowledge, contact your bank through an official channel and ask about the appropriate process for obtaining information about accounts linked to your BVN.

If you discover an account you don't recognise:

DON'T IGNORE IT.

Report it to the bank immediately and ask them to investigate.

4️⃣ PAY ATTENTION TO STRANGE LOAN MESSAGES

You receive:

«“Your loan application has been approved.”»

But you never applied.

Don't simply delete the message and move on.

An unexpected loan notification could be a sign that someone has attempted to use your personal information.

Contact the lender through its official channel and find out what is happening.

5️⃣ WATCH YOUR BANK ALERTS

If you receive an alert from a bank where you don't have an account, or you see a transaction you didn't authorise, take it seriously.

Don't wait until the problem becomes bigger.

Report it immediately.

And please remember this:

🚨 YOUR BVN OR NIN IS NOT YOUR OTP.

A legitimate bank official should never ask you to disclose your OTP, PIN, password or card security details.

If someone calls you saying:

“We are from your bank. Give me your OTP so we can protect your account.”

Stop.

Verify the caller independently through the bank's official customer-service channel.

⚠️ IMPORTANT:

Your BVN and NIN are sensitive identity information, but having them does not automatically mean someone can access all your money. If you suspect misuse, act quickly by contacting the relevant bank, financial institution or NIMC through their official channels and make a formal complaint.

Don't wait until someone tells you that you have a loan you never collected.

Check your financial identity.

Protect your information.

And take strange alerts seriously.
